Study on Radiation Damage Mechanism of Extravehicular Materials in the End of Service Lifetime |

Abstract In this work, environmental effect of typical non-metallic materials used in space was simulated by radiation resistance tests with various irra-diation dose conditions. Changes on key properties of typical non-metallic materials such as adhesive, pressure-sensitive tapes, plastic films and fiber fabric under different irradiation dose were studied. The estimation of in-orbit radiation life time of extravehicular materials could be achieved by trend extrapolation. Degradation failure mechanism of space radiation effect of materials was brought up and testified by FTIR spectrum analysis and simultaneous thermal analysis.
