Microstructure and Properties of Double Gas PAW Joints on Titanium Alloy |

Abstract The technology of plasma arc welding of mixed gas was studied. The welding process of TC4 plate butt welding on 16 mm thick was obtained. The microstructure, mechanical properties and process performance of the joint were tested. The results show that: the microstructure of TC4 mixed gas plasma arc welded joint was mainly composed of α′,needle α, intergranular α, and massive high temperature β.Heat affected zone was mainly composed of needle α and intergranular α. Compared with the base metal, the tensile strength was increased by 20 MPa, and the yield strength decreased by about 108.3 MPa. And the average elongation after fracture was about 6.8%. Compared with the base metal, the impact absorption of the weld and heat-affected zone was increased by 21 J and 17 J on average. The process performance is acceptable. Mixed gas plasma arc welding technology has a good application prospect.
