Abstract TiFe-based hydrogen storage materials have attracted more and more attention because of their advantages of large hydrogen absorption, low hydrogen release environment requirements, and abundant raw materials. However, activation difficulties and lagging problems are still the main bottlenecks restricting its large-scale development and application. In response to these problems, researchers at home and abroad have done a lot of research. This article summarizes the research progress in recent years at home and abroad, introduces the necessity of developing TiFe-based hydrogen storage alloys, the structure and hydrogen storage mechanism and existing problems of pure TiFe alloys. Solution of the problem: Adjust the relative content of alloy elements and improve the processing technology. Besides, for the first time, the method of improving TiFe-based hydrogen storage alloy was summarized from the perspective of element introduction. It provides theoretical guidance for the large-scale and extensive application of TiFe-based hydrogen storage materials in the future.

About author:: Wanqing Ren, a master's degree candidate at Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology, his main research direction during the master's period was TiC-TiB₂ cermet composite materials. During the postgraduate period, 2019.09—2020.06 participated in the “Research on the Mechanism of Rare Earth Microalloyed Steel” (National Natural Science Foundation of China); in April 2020, participated in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Natural Science Foundation “Basic research based on the short-process recycling of niobium or vanadium in direct alloying symbiotic ore” project application; From 2020.06 until now, he has been engaged in the research of in-situ synthesis of TiC-TiB₂ cermet materials against fluoride salt corrosion.Zhangyin Xu, a full professor in Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology,graduated from Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology with a master's degree in 2007. He is mainly engaged in the teaching and research work of metallurgy, high tempe-rature wear-resistant materials, high toughness cast iron material. He has won the National Natural Science Fund, Inner Mongolia Natural Science Foundation, and enterprise industry-university-research research projects, and obtained a number of scientific research results.
