Effect of Water Environment on Stress Corrosion Property of the Control RodDrive Mechanism's Ω Weld Base Metal |

Abstract The reason of the leakage of the control rod drive mechanism's Ω weld base metal is mainly the stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Stress corrosion tests were carried out to investigate the stress corrosion behavior of the Ω weld base metal in different water environments as the normal operating condition of the reactor plant and the abnormal condition inside the Ω weld. The test results showed that, the abnormal water environment inside the Ω weld which was rich in dissolved oxygen and chlorine ion can decline the stress corrosion resistance of the base metal, make the material more sensitive to the SCC and promote the crack expanding. Simultaneity, some advice was also proposed in this article to optimize the water environment inside the Ω weld.
