Abstract Copoly(aryl ester)s containing phthalazinone moieties (PPAR-D) were synthesized by interfacial polymerization of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propane and 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3-phthalazin-1-one with isophthaloyl dichloride. The effect of organic solvent, the type of the catalyst, the type and amount of the alkali, the molar ratio of two bisphenol monomer and Isophthaloyl chloride on the intrinsic viscosity of PPAR-D were investigated. The intrinsic viscosity of PPAR-D reached 0.35 dL/g, and decreased with the increase of DHPZ content in monomers. Chemical structure of PPAR-D was characterized with FT-IR and 1H-NMR. The results indicate that PPAR-D was successfully obtained. The properties of PPAR-D were characterized by TGA, solubility, and intrinsic viscosity. The results show that PPAR-D exhibited good thermal stability. PPAR-D have good solubility in chloroform and dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N-dimethylformamide, N-methylpyrrolidone and other common organic solvents

About author:: Ting Wang received her bachelor degree in engineering from Shandong University of Technology in 2016. She is currently a graduate student in the department of Polymer Science, Dalian University of Technology, and she is under the guidance of Professor Jian Xigao and Professor Zhang Shouhai. At present, the main research field is the synthesis of polyarylate containing phthalazinone biphenyl structure.Shouhai Zhang received his bachelor degree and Ph.D. degree from the College of Chemical Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, in 1997 and 2003, respectively. In 2002, he worked as a teacher at Dalian University of Technology before graduation. He is currently a full professor and the dean of the department of polymer material science and technology, Dalian University of Technology. His research interests are high performance polymers, membrane materials and separation membranes for energy and water treatment applications.Xigao Jian received his bachelor degree and master degree from Dalian University of Technology. He is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. He is currently a director of polymer materials institute in Dalian University of Technology and the head of Liao-ning High Performance Polymer Engineering Research Center. His research interests include design, synthesis and applications of high performance polymers. He invented a kind of novel heterocyclic high performance engineering plastics, and solved the technical problem that traditional enginee-ring plastics cannot both resist high temperature and dissolve. He was awarded more than 10 scientific and technological awards, including the Second Prize of National Technological Invention Awards in 2003 and the Second Prize of National Technological Invention Awards in 2011. |
